Placenta Encapsulation
The placenta is the organ that attaches to your uterus and, via the umbilical cord, nourishes and provides oxygen to your baby during their time in utero. The placenta also cleans the waste from the baby's blood. It also produces vital hormones that are essential to your baby’s growth.
Placenta encapsulation is the process of steaming your placenta, dehydrating it, and turning it into powder form to be put into a pill. It is then taken by the mother in the postpartum period.
There are many benefits to encapsulating your placenta. It contains vitamins and minerals like vitamin B6, vitamin B12, and iron. It is loaded with reproductive hormones like estrogen and progesterone and these are known to drop significantly after birth. It can potentially prevent anemia, boost milk supply, balance hormones, and finally, lower the chance of postpartum depression.
